Loukopoulos – Bulgakov at the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus

  |   Greek Campus

ECI proudly supports the performance “NOTES OF A YOUNG DOCTOR”, by Mikhail Bulgakov, with the participation of the undergraduate student (Humanistic Communication and New Technologies, M.A.) Babis Loukopoulos.

The play is staged at the MUNICIPAL THEATRE OF PIRAEUS, Stage ‘Ω’, on Tuesday 15 July 2025, at 19:30.

This important performance is organized within the framework of the MULTITHEMATIC FESTIVAL OF ART OF THOUGHT AND CREATION “LET’S GO PIRAEUS! – ARE WE GOING TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL?”

The conception/direction is credited to Pavlos Melkidis, who edited Mikhail Bulgakov’s cycle of early short stories, “Notes of a Young Doctor”, which concerned the empirical notes from the medical practice of Bulgakov himself, who was a doctor.

The short story “Morphine”, which stands out, will complete the mosaic of a story of painful love, of human fears and weaknesses, of the formation and inevitable destruction of the personality.

PLOT OF THE PROJECT:

A young doctor, who has just graduated from the university, is appointed head and sole doctor in a provincial hospital. The harsh reality of the village presents it with new challenges day by day.

Overcoming fear and doubt, he helps others, but is unable to suppress his personal pain and obsessive memories.

He falls into the trap of morphine – a world of illusions, offering only temporary relief.

Sergei Polyakov, the hero of the play, uses drugs to escape from reality in the dream world, trying to forget both the atrocities of the revolution and an unfortunate love that makes him suffer.
