Dr. Sotirios Dalianis

 

He works as an Electrical and Computer Engineer and collaborates with internationally recognized academic institutions and private bodies. He has gained experience in the drafting, management and implementation of research programs funded by the European Union, national bodies, internationally recognized research institutions and the industry. He participates in research projects, funded by the European Union and N.A.S.A., in collaboration with research centers and private bodies. He carries out research work in the fields of multimedia technology, complex information systems and the distribution of digital content.

 

He has gained research experience in the analysis, digital processing and synthesis of signals (voice, sound, image) as well as the revision of international and European standards for the encoding and transmission of multimedia. He worked as a researcher at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (I.S.V.R.), University of Southampton in Great Britain (1992-1998), and as an experienced researcher at the National Technical University of Athens (1999-2008). Since the summer of 2008 he has been collaborating with the Institute for Language and Speech Processing and the ‘Athena’ Research Center on the coordination of research projects on new communication and multimedia technologies.

 

He participates in the organization and teaching of postgraduate studies in communication technologies and mass media. He teaches topics related to social network data management systems and the production of digital content for electronic media. His writing work includes 38 publications in scientific journals and conferences. He has authored 7 scientific and didactic books on digital communications.

 

His research interests include: documentation and digitization of content, transmission of sound and image from the internet, digital copyright, social networks, metadata, multimedia applications in education, electronic publishing and mass media, interactive media as well as mobile applications.

 

He gained teaching experience both in Greece, where he teaches postgraduate and undergraduate studies at the National Technical University of Athens, in new media, audio and video processing, and at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens in multimedia technology, as well as abroad. He has taught courses on telecommunications, information theory, communications security and multimedia information applications. He also deals with educational issues such as the organization of conferences, seminars, curricula and educational material in collaboration with the Pedagogical Institute of Greece.
