Spyros Capralos

 

Spyros Capralos – ICEI M.A.

 

He is a PhD candidate in the German-speaking interdisciplinary and interuniversity project Netzwerk für Politische Kommunikation (Network for Political Communication), in which the Universität für Weiterbildung Krems (Austria), Andrassy Universität Budapest (Hungary) and Zeppelin Universität (Germany) participate. His research object is “Possibilities for increasing the interest and participation of citizens in European issues, in Greece and Austria, through communication mechanisms between European institutions and local communities”. He studied Television and Radio at the University of Salford, UK. He holds a postgraduate diploma in Political Science from the same university. He participated in the Socrates project and specialized in Digital Media at the Furtwangen Universität, Germany. He also holds an M.A. in Quality Journalism and New Technologies (with distinction) from the European Communication Institute (ECI), via the Universität für Weiterbildung Krems of Austria. He has specialized in Crisis Communication Management at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

 

Spyros Capralos is a member of the Athens Editors’ Association (ESIEA). During his more than twenty-year professional career he worked in newspapers, on the Internet, on public radio and on public television. In 2014, the Athanasios Vassilios Botsis Foundation for the Promotion of Journalism awarded him an honorary distinction for his presence in political reporting.

 

In the period 2012-2015 he served as director of the Press Office of New Democracy party, while from 2016 to 2018 he was head of the Press Office of New Democracy in the Parliament. In addition, he also worked in the Press Office of the Ministry of Finance.

 

A fellow at ECI since 2016, he teaches Political Communication in European Sphere in the Institute’s postgraduate programs.

 

In 2019, his first book entitled ‘Conflicts and Political Communication: The Anatomy of a War Room’ was published by Papazisis Publications. He is also researching methods of improving political communication (Kapralos, S. (2022) Sustainable and Resilient Political Strategies: Five Parameters to ensure effectiveness, Academia Letters). He also works as a communications advisor to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs.

 

He speaks English and German.
