Theodoros Rousopoulos is President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Member of Parliament for the B1 Northern Sector of Athens with New Democracy. He was born in Kyparissia in 1963. From 1981 to 2000 he worked as a journalist, political editor and columnist in print and electronic press. He has served as New Democracy Spokesman, responsible for the party’s political communication from 2000 until the elections of March 7, 2004, and Minister of State and Government Spokesman during the years 2004-2008. He holds a PhD in History from the University of Edinburgh with a thesis titled “Identity disputes and politics at the end of the seventeenth century” on the issues of national identity of the Greeks of Venice in the above period. Since 2009 he has been giving lectures at Pepperdine University in California on “Greece, Europe and the Economic Crisis: A Return to European Principles and Values” to postgraduate students executives of large American companies, while since 2015 he is a visiting professor at the Communication and Media Program of the European University Nicosia.
