Mag. Mario Nottas is a scholar / education activist in Journalism and Technology. He studied Sociology, Economics and Communication Science (Broadcasting) at Boston University. As part of his affiliation to ‘Athena’ Research Center (Communication Science Lab 2003-2009) and Austrian public university UWK (former DUK), he heads the interdisciplinary “Communication and Emerging Technologies” Post Graduate Programs, that lead to Master of Arts titles. The Programs are offered by the European Communication Institute, (eci-org.eu) which is a synergy of public European research and higher education institutions. MN serves ECI as exec. member of the board. ECI is situated in Athens and Vienna, promotes citizen-level European Integration via Technology and Quality Journalism and offers Graduate Communication Studies to citizens and communication professionals. MN teaches issues on Privacy and New Technologies since the Institute’s inception in 2006. Holding a critical stand against the unconditional social media culture, as a public speaker he focuses on Communication, Political Science and Citizen Rights, in a field newly coined by ECI, namely Citizen Literacy.
